A delicious dessert from one of the most used cookbooks in my kitchen, Feeding the Whole Family, by Cynthia Lair (Sasquatch Books, 2008). These flavorful bon-bons are a perfect way to finish any meal.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Makes: 8-10 bon bons
3/4 cup raw pecans
1/2 cup pitted dates, chopped
1 teaspoon orange zest (from 1 orange)
Pinch of sea salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2-1 teaspoon white miso
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1/4 cup shredded coconut
Heat oven to 300° F. Place pecans on a cookie sheet and bake for about 10 minutes or until they begin to give off an aroma.
Put all ingredients except the coconut into a food processor. Pulse until you have an even mealy texture. With moist hands, roll the mixture into 1-inch balls. Spread the coconut on a plate and roll each ball in the coconut, covering each one evenly. Serve with orange slices from the already zested orange.
